Her Childhood…
As a child, Deirdre L. Mitchell remembers her teenage mother sitting at the top of the staircase of the childhood farmhouse, reading a children’s picture book series about personal development - specifically self-confidence. Deirdre’s passion for children’s picture books especially reading them aloud has led her to the world of writing. As a Patriot she wanted to ignite confidence in children with diverse backgrounds...connecting them to the historical value of the many United States icons such as the flawless imperfections on the liberty bell, the presidential connections to US coins, the us flag and it’s infamous colors - the red, white, and blue.
Her Passion…
Deirdre L. Mitchell is Southern Bell who grew up on a watermelon patch and farm in rural Cameron, South Carolina. She had an interest in a fashion career but when she joined AmeriCorps that suddenly changed. Her heart’s vibrations drew her to explore a path of early childhood education and family services. While in the Federal government’s voluntary civil society program she served as a character education teacher in Columbia, SC and an early childhood reading tutor in Atlanta, GA. She completed a bachelor’s in child and family development with a minor in early childhood education from Columbia College.
Her Profession…
From there she became an early childhood educator, parent educator, then a workforce development consultant working with unemployed and underemployed adults. Deirdre’s heart began to yearn for an opportunity to return to her first love: children and families in an early childhood environment. The opportunity soon presented it itself on a silver platter. Deirdre become an early childhood family advocate/male involvement manager with a local nonprofit in Columbia, SC. She is now serves as a social scientist with an early childhood program..
